Cool, J.T. It's truely a martial art that one can do literally for a lifetime. A lot of folks come to it after years of getting lots of injuries in other martial arts (and after getting older!). The funny thing is that I know of the same type of folks that used Aikido in a "street" situation instead of karate or another "offensive" art. In all my years of doing Aikido, I've seen few injuries due to the way we train, even though it could truly hurt someone if thrown in a real defensive situation. We've trained a lot of policemen & women......they love it.....it's effective to control someone in the street without inflicting injury....AND....if they don't inflict injury.....they don't get sued! Have a GREAT time with Heroshi!!
Thanks for the info. I will be attending the upcoming seminar and it will be my first. I have taken a great interest in Aikido and I plan to rigorously train for many more years to come.
Yes, I do Aikido, but I am still a beginner (7 kyu, will be testing for 6 kyu soon). I usually practice at Rice University where I am a student, but I have migrated for the summer to the Bay Area Center. I receive acupuncture treatments from an acupuncturist named Samuel Leong. He is pretty good and treats Students at Rice at a subsidized cost.
